FIFA World Cup 2010 car rental
The countdown has started for the kick off of one of the most popular shows on earth - the FIFA World Cup 2010. The city of Cape Town will play host to eight World Cup games, one of which will be a semi-final!
Never before has a competition of this magnitude been held on the shores of Africa, let alone South Africa, and all indications are that preparations are well on track. South Africans of all hues and persuasions are gearing up to show the world exactly why the Rainbow Nation is considered the powerhouse of the continent.
100 million avid football fans are expected for the 2010 World Cup
Over 100 million avid football fans from all over the world are expected to make the journey to South Africa to watch 32 teams battling it out for the crown of world football and it is likely that many of these fans will choose Cape Town as their base for the duration of the month-long event.
The spectacular Green Point Stadium will be the focal point of football fever in the city and although it is still under construction, the stadium is slowly starting to take shape. The facade is complete and all that remains is the final positioning of the roof - the first of its kind in South Africa.
Special FIFA-compliant turf is being cultivated in the Winelands
Strict FIFA regulations-adhering turf is already being cultivated in the lush area of the Cape Winelands and the city is in the process of upgrading important access roads and introducing an integrated rapid transit system.
Although much time and effort is being spent on upgrading the city's poor public transport system, car hire is the smart alternative. Plans have been unveiled that will provide for remote park-and-ride and interchange facilities where visitors will be transported to the city and the stadium by taxi, bus and train.
Be smart, opt for car rental
Apart from the obvious convenience of hiring a car for your personal, dedicated transport, fans that opt for car rental will also have the freedom to explore the city and surrounds at leisure in between the hard-fought clashes on the pitch. It is advisable, however, to reserve a hired car well before the time as demand may well exceed supply.
